Calvary Monument August 2010 Electives

During the five Sundays of August, you will have the choice of attending a special elective during the Sunday School hour (9:30-10:30 a.m.). The timely topics have been chosen to enhance your spiritual walk. Our regular ABF and Sunday School teachers, who serve faithfully throughout the year, will be able to attend a class instead of teaching one. The electives listed below will replace the regular classes. Take special note of the headings to find out who the different classes are designed for.

After looking over this list, please let us know the class you plan to attend by filling out the form here. Alternatively, you may sign up on the Sunday communication form. After we have an idea of the size of each group, class locations will be determined and announced.

In the Dust of the Rabbi
Facilitated by Pastor Ken Stewart
This class is a 5-week DVD series featuring historian and Bible teacher Ray Vander Laan. Filmed on location in the Middle East, each video segment shines light on the historical, geographical, and cultural context for the teaching of our Rabbi, Jesus. Each class will conclude with a class conversation about the material presented in the video.

Transgenerational Transfer: Passing the Faith to the Coming Generations
Taught by Pastor Bob Reid
Someone said, “Christianity is only one generation from extinction.” This places an exciting and essential ministry before saints to help younger generations “catch” and embrace the Christian faith. In this class, we will look at the biblical mandates of this task as well as explore biblical characters who were or, sadly, were not engaged in this process. The aim of this class is to better equip you to pass the faith along to the next generation.

Fellowship of the Burning Heart
Taught by Pastor Josh Vaughn
The study of the characteristics of a life of passionate discipleship inspired by close, intimate companionship with God.

The Holiness of God
Taught by Dave Marshall
Each week will focus on a different aspect of God’s holiness: the importance of holiness, the meaning of holiness, the trauma of holiness, holiness of Christ, and holiness and you.

Sweet Tooth Intergenerational Class
Taught by Pastor Jim Davis
We all love candy! This series of lessons uses candy to engage families in God’s Word. While studying together, kids and their families will learn valuable lessons about the life of David. The lessons include: Blow Pops—Looking on the Inside (Samuel anoints David) and Atomic Fireballs—Courage to the Max! (David and Goliath). Note that children are welcome to attend this class with a parent. Couples without children and single adults are also welcome to attend.

Just for Junior High
All guys and girls who have completed sixth grade through eighth grade and who are not participating in the “Sweet Tooth” Intergenerational Class will be combined in a special elective being planned for junior high students.

The Miracles of Jesus
Taught by Heather Ensslen
Through this class, children will see the miracles of Jesus become more than a story. This series will bring Jesus and His miracles to life in a way kids will never forget! All children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade and who are not participating in the “Sweet Tooth” Intergenerational Class will be able to attend this elective. This class will meet in Room 9.

Our nursery and preschool classes will remain unchanged in August.
